Teaching assessment
The Learning and Teaching Centre is committed to supporting the creation of fair, effective and transparent methods of teaching assessment at the university.
The University is currently in a period of transition regarding faculty contractual agreements. For the current context of these discussions, please refer to the VPAC website. Within this transitional context, the LTC Director continues to advise on national as well as local best practices, which are based on the current scholarly research. We endeavour to work with the most up-to-date information we have and to refer colleagues, as appropriate, to other available experts.
In general, there are two forms of assessment in use at UVic regarding teaching: summative and formative. The former makes judgments regarding performance; the latter supports professional development, instructional improvement and career success. We try to provide best practice information on both types.
