Education abroad committee

The Education Abroad Committee (EAC) is composed of faculty representatives and relevant staff members from units all over campus, and chaired by the Associate Director, Global Engagement.

The EAC is committed to enabling, empowering and supporting faculties with their international activities and goals, and to coordinating these strategies with the 2016 International Plan.

EAC reviews all international activities proposed by departments and faculties that include an education abroad or partnership component using the following types of agreements.

The following types of agreements are managed and coordinated by GE.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

A non-binding expression of intent to collaborate. An MOU is used when the University as a whole is seeking the collaboration.

Letter of Intent (LOI)

A non-binding expression of intent to collaborate. An LOI is used when a specific unit or faculty is seeking the collaboration.

Student Mobility Agreement (exchange, study abroad, field school, co-op/etc placements)

A binding agreement that sets out of the terms of engagement to send and receive students to complete a learning experience (includes exchange, study abroad, field school, co-op, research and practicum placements)

2 + 2 Agreement (or other combination)

A binding agreement that sets out the terms of collaboration for receiving fee-paying students as transfer students into third (or another) year to complete a UVic undergraduate degree.

Joint/Dual Degree Agreement

A binding agreement that sets out the terms of collaboration for collaborating with another institution in the delivery of a joint or a dual degree.

Study Abroad Agreement

A binding agreement that sets out of the terms of engagement to send OR receive students to complete a learning experience. These agreements are used to formalize unidirectional student mobility arrangements (typically fee-paying).

Proposal applications for international agreements are available from the Office of Global Engagement and must have the signature of the department chair and dean to be considered complete and eligible for EAC consideration.

Agreement renewals are also managed via the EAC.

EAC-approved agreements at UVic are signed by the AVP Student Affairs and the VP Academic and Provost.

EAC 2018 meeting dates are as follows:

  • January 23, March 20, May 22, July 17, October 2 and November 27.

The deadline for submissions is 2 weeks prior to each meeting.
