  • To help its incoming international students improve their language skills, ULB offers a variety of free French courses during the semester.

Credits

Credits at ULB:

  • Full-time option (7.5 UVic units): 30 ECTS per term at ULB 

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

  • Before departure, UVic students will be able to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will indicate how many UVic units each exchange course is worth, as well as the course equivalency.
  • Students must use the evaluation results to ensure their exchange courses credits add up to the equivalent UVic units. The total number of units for each exchange term should be 4.5 UVic units for part-time exchange or 7.5 UVic units for full-time exchange.
  • This course evaluation process will be made available and explained in detail during the pre-departure session in early October for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 2-6 weeks to complete and will be emailed to students. 
  • Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a second, final evaluation is conducted by OREM using the students’ exchange transcript, and the results are applied to their UVic record.

Medical insurance, immigration & arrival

Medical insurance: Mandatory

  • Students must provide proof of coverage by a suitable insurance provider in order to be accepted by ULB.

Immigration documents: 

  • A study visa is typically required for exchange students, depending on nationality.
  • Once a student has received their ULB acceptance letter, they should contact the Belgian Embassy to inquire about a visa. 
  • If you are staying in Belgium for more than 3 months, you must register with the municipality where you live in Belgium and apply for a residence permit. The residence permit is mandatory, even for EU citizens, and you must carry it with you at all times.

Orientation: Available

  • Some of the ULB faculties offer a special welcome to exchange students. Students will receive an invite to these events by the faculty, prior to arrival.
  • The Buddy Programme enables European and international students to find an academic "buddy": a ULB student ambassador who will welcome and help them adjust to their new learning environment, to make the most of their stay at ULB.
