Highlights

  • Toulouse is a vibrant city in the south-west of France, about equidistant from the Mediterranean and from Bordeaux on the Atlantic, and 90 minutes from the Pyrenees Mountains which form the French-Spanish border. It’s set in the land of red-slate roofs, sunflower fields and vineyards, farmers’ markets and hundreds of years of history. Students can easily visist Barcelona for a weekend, or spend spring break hiking the Camino de Santiago or skiing in the Alps.
  • The University of Toulouse has a long-standing tradition of humanities studies. Founded in 1229, the institution became renowned in the 16th century for hosting prestigious humanist thinkers including Rabelais and Montaigne. The Faculty of Humanities was transferred in 1968 from the centre of Toulouse to its current location, the newly-built Mirail district which gave its name to the University of Toulouse le Mirail.
  • The Department of History was ranked third among French universities in a survey of 700 world universities. The Department now offers an innovative bilingual diploma in History in either English or Spanish. Toulouse has been ranked the best city in France for student life by “L’Etudiant” a magazine for students that annually ranks French university towns.

Accessibility

  • UT2J has PESH (Disability Support Centre), which is dedicated to welcoming and supporting students with disabilities.

  • This course evaluation process will be made available and explained in detail during the pre-departure session in early October for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 2-6 weeks to complete and will be emailed to students.
  • Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a second, final evaluation is conducted by OREM using the students’ exchange transcript, and the results are applied to their UVic record.

Etudes en France

UVic students studying on exchange in France will need to familiarize themselves with the French national agency called Campus France. This agency utilizes the Etudes en France (EEF) platform to streamline the immigration process for exchange students.

  • When a student receives an acceptance letter from their French host university, they will need to register with Etudes en France and upload their supporting documents.
    • Fee: $150 processing fee for EEF application.
  • Once the EEF application is approved, the student will receive a confirmation document with an EEF number needed for the visa application.
  • Use the EEF number to create an account on the official website for visas to France, which will compile all documents and provide a summary of the visa application.
  • Students will then be able to book an in-person appointment with VFS Global, which collects the passport, visa application package, and biometric data to process the visa.
