Accessibility

• The Accessibility Service is the UTS' central contact point for all students living with one or more disabilities, medical or mental health conditions.
• Accessibility Consultants can assist with various support services including:
  • Confidential student appointments
  • Making recommendations for learning and assessment adjustments
  • Applying for exam provisions

Course catalogue

• Exchange students can check out UTS' pre-approved subject list, which can be automatically added to your study plan and in which you can enroll yourself once you've activated your student account.  
• Students can choose other subjects to study, which are not on the list, by using UTS' subject guides, and the UTS handbook.

Credits

Credits at UTS:

• Full-time option (7.5 UVic units): 24 credit points per term at UTS

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

• Before departure, UVic students will be able to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will indicate how many UVic units each exchange course is worth, as well as the course equivalency.
• Students must use the evaluation results to ensure their exchange courses credits add up to the equivalent UVic units. The total number of units for each exchange term should be 4.5 UVic units for part-time exchange or 7.5 UVic units for full-time exchange.
• This course evaluation process will be made available and explained in detail during the pre-departure session in early October for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 2-6 weeks to complete and will be emailed to students. 
• Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a second, final evaluation is conducted by OREM using the students’ exchange transcript, and the results are applied to their UVic record.

• Students are not limited to this list when selecting courses for their upcoming exchange and should consult the host university’s course catalogue for a full list of offerings.
• Important note: this document is a guide only and previously evaluated courses are not guaranteed to be evaluated in the same way in the future.
• After being accepted into the ICS Exchange Program, students will have the chance to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will provide updated unit and credit equivalency information.

Medical Insurance, immigration & arrival

Medical insurance: Mandatory

• All student visa holders are required to purchase Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
• Exchange students can obtain the service through UTS' provider, Medibank, however other providers are also available.
• Students will be sent instructions on how to purchase OSHC when they receive an offer to study at UTS. UTS does not purchase OSHC on behalf of students.
• Exchange students are responsible for ensuring their OSHC policy covers the full duration of their student visa.

Immigration documents:

• A study visa is typically required for exchange students, depending on nationality.
• Once UVic students have been accepted by UTS, their exchange office will issue a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) which the student can use to obtain their visa.
• Please carefully review immigration information on Australia's Department of Home Affairs website.

Orientation: Mandatory

• Orientation for all exchange students is available before the start of the term, and includes campus tours, activities and social events. 
• All exchange students must attend the Essential International Advice session.
• It is highly encouraged to connect with the Peer Networkers, who can assist incoming students starting their studies at UTS.
