Accessibility

• At CityU, Student Development Services (SDS) supports students with accessibility needs.
• The CityU Exchange Team is the primary contact for students. They will refer students to the relevant accessibility supports and resources at SDS.

Credits

Credits at City U HK:

• Full-time option (7.5 UVic units): 15 credits per term at City U HK

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

• Before departure, UVic students will be able to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will indicate how many UVic units each exchange course is worth, as well as the course equivalency.
• Students must use the evaluation results to ensure their exchange courses credits add up to the equivalent UVic units. The total number of units for each exchange term should be 4.5 UVic units for part-time exchange or 7.5 UVic units for full-time exchange.
• This course evaluation process will be made available and explained in detail during the pre-departure session in early October for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 2-6 weeks to complete and will be emailed to students. 
• Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a second, final evaluation is conducted by OREM using the students’ exchange transcript, and the results are applied to their UVic record.

• Students are not limited to this list when selecting courses for their upcoming exchange and should consult the host university’s course catalogue for a full list of offerings.
• Important note: this document is a guide only and previously evaluated courses are not guaranteed to be evaluated in the same way in the future.
• After being accepted into the ICS Exchange Program, students will have the chance to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will provide updated unit and credit equivalency information. 

Housing

• Students can apply for accommodation at CityU's Student Residence.
• Rooms are subject to availability, through a random balloting system.

Medical insurance, immigration & arrival

 Medical insurance:

• Insurance is mandatory for all exchange students, which covers travel, personal accidents, medical expenses, hospitalization and evacuation/repatriation.
• Students can purchase their own private insurance, or they can enroll in the Group Personal Accident and Medical Benefits Insurance Plan for Non-local Students contracted by CityU.

Immigration:

• Exchange students must obtain a visa/entry permit to study in Hong Kong.
• CityU can apply for the visa on student’s behalf. Once issues, the visa will be emailed to student before departure for Hong Kong.
• A visa application fee will be charged by the Immigration Department. Students are required to pay the fee directly to the Immigration Department after their application is approved.

Arrival:

• CityU organizes a mandatory orientation programme for all exchange students before the
  semester begins. 
• Topics include academic information, visa regulations, course registration, student life,
  technology support, introduction to Exchange Student Club, etc.
• Each exchange student will also be assigned a buddy whose contact information will be available before arrival.

• Service Learning Program 
  • City University of Hong Kong runs a Service Learning program that is actively seeking volunteers.  

• Service Leadership Training Programme 
  • Under this umbrella program sits the Service Leadership Training Programme (SLTP) students receive training in the core principles of leadership. Students can choose to work with one of eight service teams connecting with elders through food parcels to volunteering graphic design skills for NGOs. 

• Community Engagement Programme 
  • Alternatively, the more informal Community Engagement Programme (CEP) matches students with community groups. Participants build connections through extra-curricular activities, such as distributing goodie bags to street cleaners, public education events and hosting walking tours.  

• Flow Centre 
  • Also check out the student Flow Centre at the CityU, a physical space for students to utilize for personal growth and skills training, community services, global citizenship and leadership.
