Bachelor of Education - Secondary Post-Degree Professional Program

If you already have an undergraduate degree and want to become a secondary school teacher, you've come to the right place! This 16-month post-degree professional program will prepare you for a career full of purpose and impact, guiding and providing an enriching environment to support the development of young learners. 

Build your teaching practice

In this program, you’ll gain a strong foundation in adolescent learning, classroom leadership, and the evolving role of high school teachers.

You will be supported to transform your life experience and subject-area expertise into an engaging teaching practice, developing your unique approach to creating meaningful learning environments.

Through coursework in Indigenous education, you’ll explore culturally aware teaching strategies that honour diverse perspectives, helping all students feel seen and respected in their learning.

Develop empowered young learners

High school students are growing into their identities while navigating a rapidly changing world. This program equips you to support and challenge them with thoughtful, adaptable teaching strategies.

You’ll learn how to create a classroom that fosters critical thinking, resilience, and meaningful dialogue—helping students make sense of the world around them.

Field experience

Get immersed in real classroom environments through meaningful field experiences. From full-day classroom observation in local schools to hands-on teaching opportunities under the guidance of mentors and field advisers, you'll have time to explore and develop your personal approach to teaching.

One of the greatest strengths of the UVic Teacher Education program lies in the meaningful relationships it fosters with Teacher Candidates, school districts, placement schools, and field advisors. This collaborative network ensures that candidates are not simply fulfilling program requirements; they are entering the profession with a solid and supportive foundation. From day one, Teacher Candidates are surrounded by mentors and partners who are deeply invested in their growth, creating a learning environment that benefits both the educators and the students they serve.

Link2Practice

Discover your passion for teaching during Link2Practice, where you'll learn from experienced teachers through classroom observation.

Immerse yourself in a vibrant school community, connecting with students, parents, and staff while gaining insights from a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

Explore French Immersion Teaching

Parlez-vous français? School districts in BC are always looking to hire teachers who are passionate about bringing French language and culture into classrooms.

Students in this program who demonstrate French language proficiency can choose to complete relevant coursework and complete one or both practica in French Immersion schools.
