You’ll gain hands-on experience working with young students, learning how to create a safe and inspiring classroom where every child feels seen and supported.

With expert guidance and a strong community of peers, you’ll develop the confidence, resilience, and teaching strategies to make a real difference—right from the start of your career.

Build confidence & professionalism

Becoming a professional teacher means building the confidence to lead and inspire. This program empowers you to develop a professional identity that reflects your values while equipping you to thrive in diverse educational settings.

You'll observe experienced educators in action, experiment with different instructional methods, and receive mentorship to help shape your unique teaching persona and approach.

This program will ultimately prepare you to navigate the dynamics of school communities, collaborate with colleagues and introduce yourself confidently as a new teacher.

Field experience

The transition from student to teacher can feel like a big jump. In this program, you'll have many opportunities to practice teaching with support from mentors and field advisers. Get immersed in real classroom environments, where you'll get a chance to observe and shadow experienced teachers as you build confidence and develop your skills. 

When a UVic teacher candidate steps into classroom as a part of their Link2Practice / Practicum experience, we see such an incredible energy shift in the room. While the teacher candidate grows their skills and confidence in the classroom environment, the students also benefit immensely from new methods, fresh approaches, and another trusted adult committed to serving their learning community.
