Curriculum update: fall 2026

The Computer Science BSc Major curriculum was recently updated and takes effect fall 2026.

The information on this page is applicable to all students registered from fall 2026 onward.

For students who were registered before fall 2026, please see additional information on the pre-2026 program.

The Computer Science BSc Major is an exciting program that teaches you how computers and technology really work. In the first 2 years, you’ll build a strong base in math and programming. Later, you can explore areas like video game design, web development or how computer networks run.

Admissions

You can apply directly if you're a high school student or a transfer student from another college or university.

Combined major programs

Customize your degree with a combined major program and bridge the gap between computer technology and other disciplines. Combine your computer science BSc with studies ranging from geography to visual arts.

Minor program

Expand your education by adding a computer science minor to your degree program. Meet with your home faculty’s advisers to declare a minor in computer science.

Honours program

If your long-term goal includes graduate school or you’re excited about doing research, our honours tracks will give you an edge. With several options to choose from, you’ll take advanced courses and do a research project.

Funding

Most scholarships are awarded based on recommendations made by the department. However, some require a separate application form.

Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Awards (JCURA)

The Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award (JCURA) supports students who complete a research project under the mentorship of a faculty supervisor. Full-time third- and fourth-year students with a GPA of 7.0 or above are eligible to apply. Each successful student receives a $1,500 credit in their UVic account.

Valerie Kuehne Undergraduate Research Awards (VKURA)

The Valerie Kuehne Undergraduate Research Awards (VKURA) give first- and second-year students the opportunity to gain research experience with a faculty member. Paid research internships are full-time for 12 weeks (between May 1 and August 31).

Co-op option

Our optional co-operative education program offers paid work experience that relates to your studies. It's the perfect way to develop your skills and find a career you love. You’ll do 4 work terms and get a head start on your career. On average, 70 percent of our co-op students graduate with a job offer.
