Computer Science (MSc)
In our Master of Science (MSc) program, you’ll learn and use expert research methods. You’ll work under faculty supervision on a thesis or project of your choice.

Admissions

Computer Science MSc applicants don’t need a supervisor to apply for admission. However, you should list potential supervisors in your application. Supervisors make the final decisions on admission for eligible applicants.
Funding
Every year, UVic awards $12 million to help fund graduate students through a combination of:
- UVic fellowships and awards
- teaching assistantships and employment-based research assistantships
- academic research assistantships (ARAs) (a type of scholarship/award)
Most of our incoming students also receive external awards and scholarships and financial aid and bursaries. Consideration for funding is automatic. A funding offer is normally included with an offer of admission. Some funding offers may include a combination of teaching assistantships, ARAs and/or fellowships.

Co-op
UVic is home to the largest graduate co-op program in Canada. Our co-op program gives you paid work experience linked to your studies. MSc students normally complete 2 work terms (8 months of work) to receive a co-op designation.
Many grad students do co-ops that connect to their final projects, theses or dissertations. If you’re working with a faculty member or an industry partner on research for your project, this could count as a work term.
