Sensitivity labels now available

May 05, 2026

Sensitivity labels are now available in Microsoft Office products for UVic employees. University Systems recommends applying sensitivity labels to your new and existing files as part of your file management strategy.

These labels allow you to designate the sensitivity level of files in accordance with UVic’s Information Security policy IM7800. Sensitivity labels apply security settings automatically according to the classification you set.

This feature is available in all major Office apps including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The labels can also be applied in places where you store files, including SharePoint libraries, Teams shared folders, and OneDrive.

To learn more, please visit our sensitivity labels service catalogue page or sign up for an upcoming information session via Learning Central.
