Faces of UVic Research
SEOS faculty and students are passionate about understanding our planet. Watch some of our Faces of UVic Research videos, where our faculty members explain their research in an "elevator-pitch" style.

Faces of UVic Research: Jay Cullen
Dr. Jay Cullen is an Associate Professor with the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences in the Faculty of Science. In this video, Jay discusses his research work as a chemical oceanographer tracing metals in our oceans and analyzing what impact they have on our environment. Faces of UVic Research: Roberta Hamme
Dr. Roberta Hamme is an Assistant Professor with the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on understanding what drives the oceanic and atmospheric cycles of gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen. Understanding what drives the cycles of gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen is essential to understanding our changing planet. In this video, she discusses the carbon cycle in the ocean: what it is and why it's important in the face of climate change. Faces of UVic Research: Kim Juniper
Dr. Kim Juniper is a marine microbiologist and a professor at the University of Victoria. In this video he describes marine microbiology, and his work with deep diving submarines. He also explains the importance of microbes in the ocean, and the value of the natural genetic resources in the ocean. Faces of UVic Research: Verena Tunnicliffe
Dr. Verena Tunnicliffe is a professor in the Department of Biology and School of Earth & Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on the biology and ecology of deep-ocean organisms living in extreme conditions, and has contributed onto the formation of two major ocean reserves. She is one of the leading authorities on deep-water life, particularly associated with the hydrothermal vents on mid-ocean ridges and cold seeps on continental margins. In this video, she discusses her work studying extreme conditions in the deep ocean. She explains the value of learning how organisms in the deep ocean adapt and the implications that adaption has for the ocean as a whole as it responds to changing climate conditions now and in the future.
