The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is committed to creating an equitable, accessible, respectful and inclusive environment for all students, staff, postdoctoral researchers and faculty. The Mathematics & Statistics Committee on Equity and Diversity (MSCED) advises the department on matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, and works to improve departmental policies, practices and community life.

About MSCED
MSCED is a standing committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Its membership includes faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students.
The committee's work includes:
- advising the Department Chair on matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility;
- reviewing and recommending improvements to departmental policies, procedures and practices;
- recommending guidelines, procedures and educational activities that promote equity and inclusion;
- considering equitable access to research opportunities, awards and other opportunities;
- supporting accessible and inclusive teaching and learning;
- identifying ways to foster an inclusive departmental community; and
- working with the Faculty of Science and relevant UVic offices and committees on matters related to equity, diversity and inclusion.

MSCED primarily works on departmental policies, practices and initiatives. In accordance with UVic's General Terms of Reference for Equity Committees, equity committees are not responsible for receiving reports of discrimination, harassment or sexualized violence.
