Playground maintenance
Update: Aug. 6, 2026
The play structure near the laundry building (FH35) will be removed on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026. The structure is quite old and cannot be repaired.
Work to remove the structure may be noisy on Aug. 7. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
Update: July 23, 2026
A recent assessment of the play structures in UVic’s Family Housing Complex identified several safety concerns. The university is taking the necessary steps to ensure these structures are safe and align with current best practices and building codes.
Out of an abundance of caution, the structures near townhouses 17, 26 and 33 will be temporarily closed until necessary repairs can be completed. In addition, the play structure near the laundry building (FH 35) has reached the end of its natural lifespan and will be closed until it can be removed.
Signage and caution tape will be prominent, and temporary fencing will be erected in the coming days.
Safe play structures are important aspects of family life on campus, and the university is working as quickly as possible to complete the maintenance.
In the meantime, the structure at 2365 Lam Circle (between townhouses 12 & 13) remains open. In addition, families are encouraged to access the many play structures in the neighbouring community, such as Gyro Park, Frank Hobbs Elementary, Campus View Elementary, Arbutus Global Middle School and Henderson Park.
More information will be shared as it becomes available. If you have pressing questions, reach out to us at resmaintenance@uvic.ca. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to ensure these parts of campus are as safe as possible.
