Other UVic facilities

Should you need different capabilities, other multi-user instruments are housed in various locations on campus:

Raman Spectroscopy

Dr. Brolo in Chemistry, Dr. Jirasek in Physics, and Dr. Gordon in Electrical and Computer Engineering have a Raman Spectroscopy instrument. It is maintained as part of the Imaging and laser lab.

Atomic force microscopy

UVic Chemistry has an Agilent Technologies 5500 Scanning Probe Microscope available for outside users, that is maintained through the Imaging and laser lab. Contact Alex Wlasenko for training and access to the instrument. It can be booked through the CAMTEC online booking system.

Electron beam deposition

UVic Chemistry has an Angstrom Engineering electron beam and thermal metal deposition system available for outside users, that is maintained through the Imaging and laser lab. Contact Alex Wlasenko for training and access to the instrument. It can be booked through the CAMTEC online booking system.

Raith ebeam lithography

The UVic Nanofabrication Facility houses a clean room with a Raith E-beam lithography laboratory. It is in the department of Physics, located in the basement of the Elliot Laboratory Wing. It can be booked through the CAMTEC online booking system.

JEOL JEM-1400 TEM

Dr. Patrick C. Nahirney's JEOL JEM-1400 TEM, located in the Medical Sciences Building room 336C.

We have an information page for this instrument, and it can be booked through the CAMTEC online booking system.

The Electron Microscopy Laboratory

The Electron Microscopy Laboratory houses Dr. Nahirney's Jeol JEM 1400, a Hitachi S-3500N variable pressure SEM with EDX, ultramicrotomes, critical point dryer, vacuum evaporator, auto freeze substitution system, cryofixation workstation, and other equipment. It is in the Department of Biology, located in Cunningham 065.

The Advanced Imaging Facility

The Advanced Imaging Facility contains a diverse array of optical microscopy equipment and supporting equipment. It is in the Department of Biology, located in Petch 009 and 106.

Olympus confocal laser scanning microscope

Dr. Brian Christie from the Division of Medical Sciences has an Olympus BX61WI confocal laser scanning microscope available for use.

We have an information page on this instrument, and it can be booked through the CAMTEC online booking system.
