Buy Canadian Policy: Updated Guidance for Tri‑Agency Grant Holders

June 06, 2025

Learn more about the 2024 Reach Teaching Award Recipients:

The Government of Canada’s Buy Canadian Policy encourages the use of Canadian suppliers and Canadian‑made goods and services wherever possible.

For the research community, this means grant holders are expected to select Canadian‑made materials, equipment, or services when they are available, cost‑effective and suitable. The policy recognizes that many specialized research tools and materials are not manufactured in Canada and includes appropriate exceptions where Canadian suppliers do not exist or cannot meet research needs.

Updated guidance reflecting this policy has been incorporated into the Tri‑Agency Guide on Financial Administration (TAGFA).
