The Canada Impact+ Research Chair is a one-time initiative designed to bring world-leading researchers whose work addresses critical national and global challenges. Impact+ chairholders are expected to drive the translation of discoveries into applications, commercialization, and social and economic benefits for Canada and the world. The program provides the world’s top researchers and their teams with up to $8 million over eight years to support their research programs.

Aerospace Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications from researchers working in the area of Aerospace Engineering. The role offers a chance for a world‑class aerospace engineering researcher to advance next‑generation air and space systems at UVic. The Chair will help shape a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that advances sustainable, AI‑enabled aerospace technologies. The position supports Canada’s strategic priorities by translating innovative research into real‑world applications across transportation, climate solutions and national stewardship.
Custom wind buoy uses sensors to gather and transmit live data about wind speed and behaviour to researchers.

Integrated Marine Energy Systems

The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science seeks a world‑class researcher to lead a Canada Impact+ Research Chair in Integrated Marine Energy Systems, strengthening UVic’s leadership in sustainable marine energy technologies and policy innovation. The Chair will help drive a collaborative research environment focused on resilient coastal communities, a growing blue economy and Canada’s emerging defence‑related maritime priorities. The role emphasizes translating research into real‑world impact across economic development, clean energy, sovereignty and ocean‑technology applications.

Science

The Faculty of Science is seeking applications from researchers working in an area of existing research strength within one or more of the Faculty’s six Departments and Schools, and in alignment with one or more of Canada’s strategic priority areas.

Nomination process

There are two stages to the Impact+ nomination process:

  1. Submit your application: Review the application instructions, gather your required materials, and submit your application by the closing date, March 12.
  2. Nomination by UVic: Successful applicants will work with UVic to develop their nomination for the Impact+ program.

Upon approval by the Impact+ program, successful applicants will be appointed as full professors with tenure, starting between Fall 2026 and Fall 2027.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

    • Working and residing outside of Canada at the time of the application deadline.
    • Internationally renowned scholars and scientists in areas of strategic importance to Canada, with a recent track record of research accomplishments and significant interest in making new contributions to Canada.
    • Full professors (or equivalent) who can be hired at UVic at the full professor level. Associate Professors may apply to the Science posting. Check the postings listed below for specific eligibility.

Current UVic faculty members are not eligible.
