Gustavson's Year 1 Welcome

Centennial Stadium

Welcome to Gustavson! Join us to connect with your new community and start exploring what it means to be a Gustavson student. You'll meet classmates, connect with mentors, members of the BCom team, and learn more about the people, resources and opportunities that will support you throughout your degree. 

We'll also help you understand the transition from high school to university by introducing key academic expectations, and tell you about the many ways you can get involved to make the most of your time at Gustavson. 

Most importantly, this is a chance to meet new people, enjoy some food, have some fun and begin building a sense of belonging before classes get underway. 

This event is for first-year BCom students only.

Welcome to the Faculty of Education

You'll hear from one of the Deans of Education and meet community members whose work spans Indigenous studies, child and youth care, early childhood development, and educational leadership. Together, they will share stories and perspectives from their work with children, families, communities, and learners.  

As you begin your studies, this is an opportunity to build connections, reflect on the many pathways into education, and explore what it means to be part of a learning community grounded in relationship, care, and collective growth.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts New Student Orientation

Tuesday, September 8, 2026, 1 to 4 p.m. 

Roger Bishop Theatre (Phoenix Theatre Building)

The Dean of Fine Arts invites all first-year and new transfer students in all five of our units (Art History & Visual Studies, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Writing) to attend this short introduction and overview of the Faculty, including tips from Fine Arts Academic Advising, Co-op + Careers and the Libraries. Students will then break into departmental groups for short, peer-led orientation sessions and facility tours, plus a brief orientation in our computer labs and a lobby info fair. You’ll come away from this session with a good understanding of your department, your student association, the facilities/equipment available to you, and who to talk to if you need assistance in the year ahead.

Social Sciences

Social Sciences New Student Orientation

UVic Farquhar Auditorium

We welcome all incoming undergraduate students in the Faculty of Social Sciences to join us for the Social Sciences New Student Orientation! Learn about academic programs, academic advising resources, and student experiences in the Social Sciences. The orientation includes a student roundtable discussion on “How to Make the Most of Your Time at University” as well as student presentations on what it’s like to gain co-op work experience, get engaged in clubs, and write an honours thesis. There will also be information booths with representatives from each of our major areas of study and other services on campus in the lobby right after the event in the auditorium from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you!
