Welcome to UVic!

Starting at UVic in May? You’re in the right place! Through participating in our events, you'll meet new friends, get to know campus services and begin your transition to UVic in the beautiful summertime! 

Students starting in May 2026 will receive emails in April with information about campus services, upcoming events and tips on succeeding at UVic. In the meantime, we recommend watching the New Student Essentials video series and follow @UVicYearOne on Instagram to learn tips and tricks from current UVic students for navigating your first year as a UVic student. Students starting in May will also receive an invite to join September 2026 Orientation events.

Events for all new students

The following events were open to all students starting in May 2026.

Past events

New Student Campus Tours

Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. 

Get ready for your first week of classes with a UVic campus tour! All new students starting in May are encouraged to sign up for the tour. You'll be given your tour by current UVic students who will show you the campus services and resources UVic offers. You'll also get to learn about some of the favourite campus hangouts, including faculty buildings, athletic facilities, dining services and more.

If you missed the New Student Campus Tours, UVic offers general daily campus tours Monday through Saturday, year round. 

Tours start from the Student Life Hub, in the Jamie Cassels Centre lobby.

New Student Social

Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. 

Drop by the Student Life Hub in the Jamie Cassels Centre for an afternoon of fun and community connection. Meet other students, connect with student leaders, eat snacks, and play games! This drop-in style event will be an amazing opportunity to make friends, get to know the resources available to you, and start building your UVic community. 

ICS Summer Kick Off

Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. 

As an international student, you have a unique experience transitioning to university and life in Canada. Join other new international students for the ICS Summer Kick Off at the quad to meet UVic staff, other incoming international students, campus services, and current students who will help you settle into life at UVic.
