Self-isolation arrangements

Before you make arrangements for your self-isolation (quarantine), please ensure you have reviewed the guidelines from the Government of Canada on:

Arranging accommodations

It is very important that you have access to a safe and clean place to stay where you can be effective in remaining isolated for the full 14 days.

All travellers are required to arrange suitable accommodation at their final destination in advance of travelling to Canada;  travellers flying to Canada must also arrange a three night, pre-paid hotel booking in the city in which they first arrive in Canada. This booking must be made in advance of travelling to Canada and at their own cost.

If you have not yet arranged accommodations for your self-isolation (quarantine), the following information can help guide you on making arrangements.

Mandatory hotel stopover (for travellers flying to Canada)

As of February 21, 2021, at 11:59 pm ET, travellers, unless exempted, will also be required to:

  • prior to departure, reserve a government-authorized hotel for 3 nights
  • take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival in Canada
  • stay in the government-authorized hotel while awaiting the results of the COVID-19 molecular test taken on arrival
  • pay for the cost of the hotel stay, as well as all associated costs for food, security, transportation and infection prevention and control measures

Travellers must present proof of having reserved and pre-paid for their accommodation through ArriveCAN. See the COVID-19 mandatory hotel stopover page for more information, including instructions on how to book your accommodation.

Travellers will still be required to complete the remainder of the mandatory 14-day self-isolation (quarantine) after their mandatory hotel stopover.

Accommodation options at your final destination

Below are accommodation recommendations for isolation in Victoria that offer self-isolation (quarantine) arrangements. You can also book a short-term accommodation rental through Airbnb and VRBO.

Note that these arrangements are separate from the mandatory hotel stopover required for travellers flying to Canada.

Free Wi-Fi is offered at all locations and some of the listed accommodations have options for families. Please identify yourself as a UVic student when making your accommodation reservations.
