Courses

Important note:

  • Available for graduate UVic Engineering students only.
  • 50% of the credits earned must be from KTH's School of Architecture and Built Environment.
  • UVic students must consult with their Graduate Adviser before applying to the ICS Exchange Program.

Credits

Credits at KTH:

  • Full-time only: Select courses of 30 ECTS credits per semester (corresponding to full-time studies at KTH). Courses in Swedish language and society may be excluded from the 30 ECTS credit maximum.
  • Choose a minimum of 50 percent of the credits at the school to which you are applying
  • Meet the admission requirements for each course.

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

  • Once accepted, UVic exchange students will be able to submit KTH courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will indicate how many UVic units each KTH course is worth, as well as the course equivalency.
  • Students must use the evaluation results to ensure their KTH courses credits add up to the equivalent UVic units. 
  • This evaluation process opens in late September for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 4-6 weeks for results to be made available. 
  • Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a final evaluation is conducted by UVic Records using your KTH transcript, and the results are applied to your UVic transcript.

  • Students are not limited to this list when selecting courses for their upcoming exchange and should consult the host university’s course catalogue for a full list of offerings.
  • Important note: this document is a guide only and previously evaluated courses are not guaranteed to be evaluated in the same way in the future.
  • After being accepted into the ICS Exchange Program, students will have the chance to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will provide updated unit and credit equivalency information. 

Housing

On-campus housing: Available

  • Exchange students can apply for on-campus housing at KTH but due to limited room and apartment availability, housing is not guaranteed. 

Off-campus housing: Available

  • KTH Housing can assist students in finding accommodations in dormitories and apartments near campus, however, the housing market in Stockholm can be challenging.
  • Exchange students are encouraged to utilize KTH Housing and also look for housing on their own.

Medical insurance, immigration & arrival

Medical insurance:

  • KTH recommends that all exchange students have comprehensive insurance coverage to avoid high medical costs, in case of an unexpected incident or illness.
  • It is important that all students ensure their insurance coverage is for the full duration of their studies.
Immigration: 
  • Exchange students with non-EU/EEA citizenship will need to apply for a residence permit for studies before entering Sweden.
  • Please see the Migrationsverket/the Swedish Migration Board for further information and application forms for the residence permit. 
  • KTH strongly advises students to apply for a residence permit as soon as they receive their Letter of Acceptance, as the residence permit process can take months to complete. 
Arrival:
  • Exchange students are encouraged to attend KTH's Arrival Days, which happen in the weeks before the semester begins. 

  • During Arrival Days, students can receive an airport pick up, and activate their KTH access cards and accounts on campus. 

  • KTH's student union, Tekniska högskolans studentkår (THS), organizes social and cultural activities for students to connect and learn more about Sweden!
