Welcome from the director
As the first director, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the website of the newly minted School of Medical Sciences!
Upon joining the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Health as a founding member in 2025, the former Division of Medical Sciences was renamed as a School. We have recently renewed our long-term mission to "create an environment that promotes world-class medical research and education."
The School of Medical Sciences is already highly successful in its mission. We are obtaining external funding, attracting top research trainees (particularly in our neuroscience graduate program), publishing ground-breaking research together, and seeing our trainees onto successful careers of their choosing. In parallel, we are training the next generation of physicians in the University of British Columbia’s Island Medical Program.
We are very pleased to be a part of the new Faculty of Health, working together with our colleagues from the other schools and departments to work towards building a healthier future in British Columbia, Canada, and around the world."
