Abstract
The prevalence of socio-political vanguard groups has grown in contemporary Western society. Although existing research has examined the ideologies, processes, and impacts of these groups, far less attention has been given to the leaders who shape these movements and the qualities and attributes that define vanguard leadership. Addressing this gap, the present study compares the key characteristics of vanguard leadership through case studies of three major vanguard leaders: George Lincoln Rockwell, Malcolm X, and Guy Debord. By analyzing their traits, skills, behaviors, goals, and strategies, this study identifies similar and different vanguard leadership patterns and compares and contrasts these findings with existing theories of vanguard leadership, aiming to identify both the similarities and differences in how these leaders operate and how their leadership attributes may relate to their broader socio-political impact.
