If you are a...
...first-time applicant to the University of Victoria, apply through My UVic Application for first-time applicants.
...current student (currently registered in at least one credited course between September and April of the current academic year), apply through My UVic Application by signing in with your NetLink ID and passphrase
...returning student (you have completed at least one credited course at UVic, but are not registered in a credited course between September and April of the current academic year), apply through My UVic Application by signing in with your NetLink ID and passphrase.
DEADLINE: Undergraduate admissions open September 1 and close January 31.
NOTE: If you miss the January 31 deadline or do not make the cutoff for admissions to writing, you can still take WRIT 100 and other writing lecture courses in the upcoming winter session, while still in your current program, in preparation for applying to the next September entry point. Everyone can take WRIT 100 if there are seats available for registration after it is opened to non majors.
Entry from high school
Gain admittance to the university, declare yourself a writing major (or writing as your first area of interest) in the Faculty of Fine Arts, and register in WRIT 100 during the designated registration period. No portfolio is required.
Transfer in...
...from another accredited institution as a first- or second-year student:
No portfolio is required when you enter UVic at this level unless you are seeking advanced standing in writing workshops.
...from another accredited institution as a third- or fourth-year student:
If you choose not to take WRIT 100, you MUST submit an advanced standing portfolio between January 15 and April 15 in the year in which you want September entry. Advanced standing does not guarantee placement in workshops. No student will be permitted to take more than 1.5 units of workshops in a single genre per term, or more than 3.0 units of workshops in any given term.
...as a Second Degree Candidate:
You MUST submit an advanced standing portfolio unless you wish to begin the program at the WRIT 100 level.
If you propose to transfer into the writing program, please be aware that entry into writing courses is on a first-come, first-serve basis and, because workshops are small, courses are not always available to all who desire them.
You are advised to check the deadlines and grade requirements before registering in courses in the Minor in Professional Writing in Journalism and Publishing.
