Accountability & reporting

Learn how accountability will be upheld as the goals of the Equity Action Plan (EAP) are advanced.

Reporting

Reporting on progress is a crucial part of the Equity Action Plan (EAP), as laid out by goal 5:

Institutional accountability: Conduct ongoing, transparent evaluations of this action plan with continued opportunities for meaningful engagement and feedback with/from the community.

During the development of the EAP we heard that there is a lack of trust when it comes to the evaluation of equity related initiatives, especially from systemically and historically marginalized populations. There is a desire for reporting to be meaningful and go beyond performativity.

Therefore, Action 10 under goal 5 states: Design an ongoing reporting mechanism for the campus community that involves sharing progress on the EAP, consulting on reprioritization and emerging issues, and communicating actions from across the university.

The goals of this reporting plan are to increase transparency and build trust while holding UVic leaders accountable to the commitments of the plan.

Continued engagement

Institution-wide interim reporting for the EAP focuses on sharing a high-level summary of the advancement of the EAP’s five goals.

Snapshot 2025 is accompanied by community engagement aimed at updating the plan given UVic’s shifting context and priorities.

Phase 1: Understanding our shifting context (Fall 2025)

We want to understand how the barriers faced by UVic community members have changed over the last three years. From the end of October 2025 to the end of the fall term, a campus wide survey was available to collect feedback.

Phase 2: Community priorities (February - March 2026)

After initial broad engagement in phase 1, we will be using various tactics to hear about priority actions from university community members. This phase will include consultations with student and employee advocacy groups, unions, and relevant working groups and committees to ensure diverse perspectives and expertise inform the next stage of the update.

Additionally, we are releasing a student survey to consult on the drafted actions that specially seek to improve student experiences. Survey is open January 30 to February 13 at 11:59 PM.

Fill out the survey for a chance to win 1 of 3 iPads.

Phase 3: (March – April 2026)

The EAP team will work with leaders across the university to ensure the commitments of the plan are actionable and that accountabilities are clear.  Importantly, we will meet with the teams that manage other related university strategic plans and priorities (i.e., Accessibility Plan, Indigenous Plan, and Scarborough Charter) to confirm alignment.

Phase 4: (May 2026)

An updated version of the EAP will be shared with the campus community.

Accountabilities

For each action listed in the plan, one of more senior leader is listed as “leads.” These members of the University Executive are accountable for ensuring progress on the committed actions. Units and faculties within their portfolios have been tasked with developing activities to advance these actions. Other leaders and portfolios may have related responsibilities.

Ongoing progress

The UVic Community Actions Feed serves as an ongoing way for members of the University community to share initiatives that advance the goals of the Equity Action Plan. Check out the action updates and consider adding your own.
