Request to progress
Information for September 2026 is now listed below
If you're in the direct entry pathway, you will request to progress into core professional studies (program years 2-4) while completing your pre-core requirements.
The core professional studies consist of three years of full-time study, which you may begin only once you have successfully completed all pre-core requirements on time.
Steps to follow
Complete the following steps during your pre-core studies (program year 1) for progression the following September.
Step 1: Complete your pre-core academic requirements
Complete your academic (course and grade) requirements by April 30. You'll complete these requirements in the September and January terms.
Step 2: Email Education Advising with your request to progress
Email Education Advising with your request to progress by January 31. Be sure to include your name, student number and request in your email.
Step 3: Submit your Summary of Experience
Submit your summary of experience by January 31
Step 4: Ask your references to fill out and submit a confidential reference form
Have your two references complete the confidential online reference submission form by February 15.
Timeline for request approval
You can expect to hear from UVic in May or June once Education Advising has confirmed that you have met all your pre-core year requirements. You'll later receive an email with instructions about how to register for your courses for the coming year. Course registration takes place online in June.
Note: You might receive an email from UVic with your registration date and time in June before you receive your timetable information from Education Advising, and that's ok! Rest assured that your space in your classes is reserved.
If you will not be able to successfully complete the pre-core requirements (program year 1) by the deadlines above, contact Education Advising. It may be possible to delay starting your core professional studies to the following September.
