Alumni awards
Every year, UVic announces its Distinguished Alumni Awards, which fall into 3 categories:
- Presidents’ Alumni Awards
- Emerging Alumni Awards
- Indigenous Community Alumni Awards
In 2022, two alumni from our faculty were recognized.
Presidents’ Alumni Award winner: Damineh Akhavan
Damineh Akhavan is a senior engineer at Viking Air, with 17 years of experience in the aerospace industry. She's an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion for women in STEM and a champion for women in engineering. She earned her Bachelor of Engineering in 2005, as well as a Bachelor of Science in 2006 and MBA in 2011.
Emerging Alumni Award winner: Devesh Bharadwaj
Devesh Bharadwaj graduated in 2017 with a BEng and is the CEO of Pani Energy, a company that is accelerating humanity’s transition to sustainable water with data and artificial intelligence (AI). Bharadwaj and Pani Energy were recognized locally and internationally for research, innovation and leadership, including Forbes 30 Under 30 and, most recently, the Cleantech Group’s Global Cleantech 100 List.
