Micro-credential programs

Quick, focused skill-building for your career

Micro-credentials are short, targeted learning experiences designed to help you quickly gain new skills or enhance existing ones. They are a flexible way to stay ahead in a fast-evolving job market, offering specialized knowledge that meets the needs of today’s employers.

Whether you're looking to advance in your current role or transition to a new field, micro-credentials provide valuable, industry-relevant credentials that can help you stay competitive.

Funding

Select University of Victoria micro-credential programs are eligible for funding through the StrongerBC future skills grant.  Eligible British Columbia residents aged 19 and older may qualify for up to $3,500 toward short-term training.

Visit individual micro-credential program pages to learn whether a program is eligible for funding.

Funding provided by the Province of British Columbia through the StrongerBC future skills grant.

Micro-Certificates in Applied Data Science (CADS)

The Micro-Certificates in Applied Data Science (CADS) are flexible, graduate-level credentials designed for professionals seeking to advance their data science expertise. Intended for part-time learners and informed by UVic’s Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science (MADS), CADS emphasize applied, industry-relevant learning that supports career advancement, upskilling and transitions into data-focused roles.

Each CADS micro-certificate offers immediate value as a standalone graduate credential.  Depending on admissions and program requirements, completed micro-certificates may be eligible to be stacked towards a Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science (MADS).  If learners choose to pursue multiple credentials, the micro-certificates are designed to build on one another and are completed in sequence.

Upon completion of each micro-certificate, learners earn an official micro-certificate credential from UVic, gaining a recognized graduate-level qualification that supports immediate professional impact and future academic pathways.

Core Skills for Biomanufacturing (CSB)

Enhance your degree with specialized training in one of Canada's fastest-growing sectors.  Developed in partnership with the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training (CASTL), the Core Skills for Biomanufacturing micro-credential is designed for senior undergraduate Biomedical Engineering (BME) and Biological Systems students, Master of Engineering in Biomedical Systems (MEng-BISY) students, recent graduates, and other STEM learners seeking industry-ready skills in biomanufacturing.

Through focused instruction in bioprocessing, quality control, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), combined with hands-on laboratory experience, participants gain practical knowledge that complements their academic training and strengthens their readiness for careers in biotechnology, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and the broader life sciences sector.  Gain industry-relevant experience, build professional networks, and earn a recognized credential that helps distinguish your resume in a competitive job market.

Successful participants will earn a University of Victoria micro-credential endorsed by CASTL, demonstrating achievement of foundational biomanufacturing competencies valued by employers across the life sciences industry.
