AI@UVic

This site is a hub for guidance, resources and communities of practice that are exploring, developing and using artificial intelligence (AI) tools at UVic.

AI tools include machine learning (ML), large language models (LLMs) and other generative AI models. They have the potential to accelerate and transform research, teaching and learning, and operations. At the same time, there are significant risks that come with the adoption of AI. People in the UVic community raised concerns about intellectual property rights, Indigenous data sovereignty, machine learning bias, academic integrity, environmental impacts and more.

We've committed to supporting the use of AI in transparent, responsible, ethical and equitable ways. To that end, we're developing training, guidance, tools and evaluation criteria for AI tools. We've curated these resources which reflect both the innovative potential of AI and UVic's strategic goals and priorities.

Guidelines

Learning & teaching

UVic has developed a position statement on AI in teaching and learning as well as a syllabus statement and resources for instructors.

Research & innovation

Generative AI is transforming the research landscape. UVic endorses Tri-agency Guidelines and is committed to monitoring the changing landscape and helping researchers navigate it.

Operations & administration

Copilot, UVic's enterprise GenAI tool, can streamline routine tasks. But it must be used safely, responsibly, and in compliance with UVic's policies.

Initiatives

Microsoft Copilot

University Systems is working on an initiative to make Microsoft's premium AI service, Copilot, available.
