Change your TSM password: Windows

Registered owners of a computer using the TSM backup system can change their password using the TSM Administration page, provided they know their NetLink ID and password.

If you do not know your NetLink ID or password, but you do know the current TSM password for your node, you can use the Backup Archive GUI to change your password by following the directions below.

Additionally, regardless of whether you used the NetLink or the Backup Archive GUI to change your password, if you are running overnight backups as an NT service, you will need to update the password for that service by following the directions below.

Change your TSM password using the Backup Archive GUI

  1. Open the Backup Archive GUI.
  2. Login with your current TSM password.
  3. Under the Utilities menu, select Change Password.
  4. Enter your current and new passwords and click Change. You should see a message indicating that the password change was successful.
  5. Close the Backup Archive GUI.

Update the password for the TSM overnight backup service

  1. Open the Backup Archive GUI.
  2. Login with your new TSM password.
  3. Under the Utilities menu, select Setup Wizard.
  4. The Setup Wizard should appear.
  5. Deselect the box next to Help me configure the TSM Backup Archive Client. Select the box next to Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler.

  6. Select Update a previously installed scheduler and click Next.

  7. Click TSM-Backup so that it is highlighted and click Next.

  8. Confirm that the next screen correctly displays the location of your dsm.opt file. If it does not, click the Browse button to locate your dsm.opt file. It will likely be located in c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient. Click Next.

  9. Confirm that your TSM node name is displayed correctly. If it is not, correct it. Type your new password and click Next.

  10. When asked which account the service should use when logging onto Windows, ensure that The System account and Automatically when Windows boots are selected. Click Next.

  11. In the box specifying the client schedule log file, click the browse button and find the dsmsched.log file. Click the browse button for the client error log file and find the dsmerror.log file. If you installed TSM to the default location, you can find the files in C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient. Ensure that Enable event logging is selected and click Next.

  12. Click Finish. You should see a message indicating that the scheduler service was successfully updated.
