Create a Mac App Store account

When purchasing Apple products, University Systems strongly recommends the use of a "business" Apple ID that is associated with a departmental email address. This will allow the Apple ID and the software purchases that it contains to transition to a new staff member if required.

To create a "business" Apple ID:

  1. Launch the Mac App Store.

  2. If you are automatically prompted for an Apple ID and password, click Create Apple ID. If you're not automatically prompted, click on the App Store menu, select Store > Create Account.
  3. Agree to the Terms and Conditions by clicking Agree.
  4. When prompted, enter your departmental email address and create a password. Your email address will be used as your Apple ID. Later, you will be asked to verify this account.
  5. Complete the other fields and click Continue.
  6. You'll be asked to enter your payment and billing information. For your credit card type, select the radio button next to None. This will allow you to bill through UVic's purchasing department at a later time.
  7. When you're finished, click Create Apple ID.
  8. A verification email will be sent to the email address that you provided in step 4. Open the email and follow the instructions to verify your account.
