New generative AI guidelines for employees

April 14, 2026

UVic has launched generative AI (GenAI) guidelines for employees. They outline key considerations and responsibilities for using GenAI tools in your UVic work. These include protecting the privacy of UVic students and employees and keeping UVic data secure. Please review the guidelines before using GenAI tools for university business.

New AI models and applications are emerging rapidly. These guidelines will be reviewed and revised as needed.

These new staff guidelines complement existing guides for research and instruction.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is the only GenAI tool that’s approved for staff use. University Systems is working on an initiative to make Microsoft 365 Copilot, an add-on that adds more powerful features, available. For access details, privacy and security information, and getting started resources, see the Microsoft 365 Copilot products page in the service catalogue
