Using your preferred name
We will print your ONECard with your preferred first name - the name that you commonly use that may be different from your legal first name. Here is how to do it:
- Enter your preferred name into your student/faculty/staff record at least 24 hours prior to ordering your ONECard for the first time.
- If you already have a ONECard, we can create a new card with your preferred name for a $20.00 replacement fee.
UVic strives for an inclusive environment. If you want to change your preferred name due to your gender identification/marital status or those indigenous students, faculty/staff who self-identify during the admissions/hiring process; in exchange for your current card we’ll replace it (one time) at no charge. Any additional replacements will be charged a $20.00 card replacement fee”.
Limitations include:
- No symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation, as our system has no ability to print special characters or symbols
- No characters from different languages
- No titles (e.g. professional or religious)
- No offensive or suggestive words
