Winter Reading Challenge 2025-2026 Contest Rules
By entering this contest, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions below.
- Contest is sponsored by the University of Victoria as represented by its Libraries (“UVic”).
- Contest is open to all individuals who are residents of Canada, excluding Quebec, who meet all of the following requirements:
- Have a library account in good standing with UVic Libraries
- Contest opens on Monday, December 1st, 2025 at 7:30 am PT and ends on Friday, February 27th, 2026 at 6 pm PT.
- Entrants must complete at least one ballot and submit the ballot at a ballot box located at the Ask Us Desk at the Mearns – McPherson Library or the main service desk at the Priestly Library to be entered in the contest.
- To receive a ballot, an entrant must:
- Attend at either the Ask Us Desk at the Mearns Centre-McPherson Library or the main service desk at the Diana M. Priestly Library and ask for a Winter Reading Challenge form;
- Fulfill the criteria to earn one or more stamps as described on the Winter Reading Challenge form, and record that they have done so on the appropriate space on the form;
- Attend at the Ask Us Desk and present their form filled out as described above. For each category they have completed and filled out on their Winter Reading Challenge form, they will receive one stamp and one ballot. Each stamp and ballot may only be earned once by each entrant for one category;
- Repeating steps b) and c) until either the contest period ends, or their Reading Challenge form is completely filled.
There is a limit of 24 entries per eligible entrant: one entry for each of the categories on the Winter Reading Challenge form.
- There will be total six (6) prizes awarded:
- 2 Cinecenta gift passes (two movie admissions, 1 pop, 1 popcorn) worth $25 each;
- 4 Single admission tickets to Cinecenta worth $10 each
- Random draw for the winners of the prizes will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026 at 12 pm PT.
- Prizes are non-transferable and must be accepted as awarded. Prizes are not convertible to cash.
- The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
- The selected entrants will be contacted by email and/or phone using the contact information provided on the ballot. If a selected entrant cannot be contacted within five(5) business days following the first attempt at contact, or if the selected entrant declines the prize, another random draw will occur and the prize will be awarded to the winner selected in such subsequent random draw.
- Each selected entrant must correctly answer a time-limited, skill-testing mathematical question to be awarded the prize.
- Entrants agree that their name may be announced on UVic's website and other associated media sites if they are selected as the winner of this contest. They also agree that their in-progress Winter Reading Challenge forms may be shared on UVic's website and other associated media sites during and after the contest.
- Personal information is collected for the purpose of entering and administering the Winter Reading Challenge contest under sections 26(c) the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. UVic will not share personal information relating to entrants with any third parties, except as may be required by law. UVic will not attempt to contact any entrants for any other purpose than as set out in these terms and conditions unless the entrant has consented to receive relevant communications from UVic or as otherwise allowed under applicable laws. - UVic reserves the right to amend these contest rules or to terminate the contest at any time without any liability to any entrant.
- UVic assumes no liability for any loss, damage or injury, including but not limited to lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, late, destroyed, ineligible or incomplete entries.
- By entering this contest, each entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the University of Victoria, Instagram, Facebook, and any of their representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers, and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim, or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from: (i) such entrant’s participation in this contest and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunction of any computer, cable, network, hardware, or software, or other mechanical equipment; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions, telephone, or internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the contest; (v) electronic or human error in the administration of the contest or the processing of entries.
- The decisions of UVic in relation to this contest will be final and binding on all entrants.
Prizes
