In the Know: Advice for International Students is a section of the UVic Global Community Newsletter that includes valuable information and important dates for undergraduate and graduate international students in the following categories: degree-seeking, incoming exchange, and incoming study abroad/visiting.
International Student Services will be:
- Open with regular hours (9:00am to 3:00pm) on Thursday, December 24
- Please note that ISS staff are available remotely to support you.
- Closed for winter break Friday, December 25 through Sunday, January 3
- Open with regular hours (9:00am to 4:30pm) on Monday, January 4
- Please note that ISS staff are available remotely to support you.
If you have urgent questions or concerns to discuss with the ISS International Student Advising team, please visit or contact International Student Services as soon as possible so we can assist you before the winter break.
Tips for the Winter Break:
- If you experience an emergency during winter break, please contact Campus Security Services.
- If you are located in Victoria and need medical attention during the winter break, please refer to the Medimap website or download the app to receive virtual care or search for a clinic near you.
- If you need support with your overall well-being and mental health, SupportConnect is a free, confidential mental health support service for UVic students that is available 24/7 by phone and online. Get connected with qualified counsellors, consultants, and life coaches anytime, anywhere.
- If you are planning to travel during the winter break, be sure to read our GC Newsletter article, Travel Considerations and Self-isolation. Please ensure you meet the exemptions before you plan to travel.
- Join the UVic Global Community Facebook Group to receive regular updates about opportunities and events. If you are interested in joining their virtual winter break events, refer to their December Events Calendar. You can also apply to join the online Global Community Programs for spring term.
- All in-person events and social gatherings are suspended by order and direction of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) to significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission related to social interactions and travel. The order is in effect from November 19, 2020 at midnight to January 8, 2021 at midnight. Stay safe and keep up-to-date with province-wide restrictions in British Columbia.
