Research Interests:
I am interested in questions of diasporas, colonialism, and indigeneity across time and place. This encompasses identity and state formation, human migration, plurilingualism, and cultural contact, both asymmetrical and transculturative, in an interconnected ancient Mediterranean world (and indeed beyond). I particularly find fascinating the intersections between religious practices, literary traditions, economic and political systems, and specific historical conditions. It is my belief that while history may not always repeat itself, the past echoes and events in time occasionally rhyme.
