Corlie Purvis Memorial Award

One or more awards, to a maximum of $1,000 each, are given to undergraduate, graduate or post-doctoral trainees participating in concussion related research who have the opportunity to:

1. Travel to attend and/or present at conferences to share their research, network and collaborate with other scientists from other universities; or,
2. Travel to collaborate with an international academic, industry or government research entity.

Applicants must provide:

1. A short summary of the travel required and how it will impact their studies.
2. Itemized costs related to the trip and how much they are requesting.

Selection will be made in the following order of preference:

1. Graduate or post-doctoral trainee presenting original research at a conference
2. Undergraduate trainees presenting original research at a conference
3. Graduate, post-doctoral or undergraduate trainees travelling to network with other scientists and learn techniques to bring back to UVic.

Application forms must be submitted to the School of Medical Sciences Office prior to travel.  Graduate students must apply by August 15 for travel in the coming academic year. Post doctoral fellows and undergraduate students can apply throughout the academic year.  Approval of recipients will be made by the Senate Committee on Awards or by the Faculty of Graduate Studies Graduate Awards Committee upon the recommendation of the Director of the Christie Concussion Laboratory.

Eligibility

Normally, the minimum requirement for consideration is an A- average and any additional criteria that has been established by the donor. Awards are assigned based on nominations from eligible academic units. Unless otherwise noted in the award description, you must be a full-time graduate student. 

Retaining funding

Ongoing UVIc graduate funding requires students to maintain a minimum level of academic standing and some ongoing maintenance.
