Composition and Theory

The Bachelor of Music in composition sets out to develop the necessary artistic, technical, and conceptual skills to be a professional composer. The composition program has a reputation for experimentation, innovation, and theoretical rigour. Composition students receive three years of composition lessons where their individual abilities and interests are identified and nurtured. Coaching in performance, and instruction in music technology, contemporary theory, and analysis are essential parts of the program.

Our faculty are accomplished professionals involved in the creation and research of music composition. Their works are performed at major festivals and concert venues both nationally and internationally. We frequently invite guest composers and sound artists to give workshops, lessons and presentations.

Many of our graduates have gone on to successful careers as composers, educators, and arts administrators, winning prestigious awards at national and international levels.
