Water Conservation Needed in Saanich During Water Main Repair

The Capital Regional District (CRD) is conducting an emergency repair to a major regional water transmission main in View Royal, beginning Thursday, September 24, with repairs expected to continue through Monday, September 28.The CRD has advised that some areas of Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula may experience reduced water pressure during the repair. UVic may experience some impacts during the repair, although the extent is currently uncertain.

Drinking water quality is not expected to be affected, and normal water use can continue, including drinking, handwashing, washroom use, food preparation, cleaning, research and other regular building activities.

As a precaution, the CRD is asking residents and organizations to reduce or postpone non-essential, high-volume water use where practical, such as:

• Vehicle washing
• Outdoor watering
• Other major or discretionary water-use activities that can reasonably be delayed

These measures will help lower the risk of low-pressure conditions in some parts of the system while repairs are underway.

If you notice reduced water pressure, please report any significant or persistent impacts to Facilities Management.
