UVIC FMGT is planning electrical outages in three areas across campus to support critical upgrades to the campus electrical distribution grid. This work is necessary to maintain the reliability of our high-voltage infrastructure and reduce the risk of equipment failure.

The above buildings building fall under: Area 2

The planned outage schedule is as follows:

  • Area 1: August 8, 2026, from 10:00am to 6:00pm
  • Area 2: August 4, 2026, from 8:00pm to 4:00am August 5, 2026
  • Area 3: TBD, Targeting Late 2026

Please review the following in preparation for the outages:

  • Buildings will be locked during the outage. Please ensure you have vacated the building by:  
    • Area 2- 6:00pm on Aug 4. If you need to use the elevator to leave the building, please do so by 5:00 pm. 
    • Area 1 - 8:00am on Aug 8.  If you need to use the elevator to leave the building, please do so by 7:00am. 
  • During this time, buildings will be without power, internet and WiFi.
  • Emergency lighting will remain operational throughout the outage to help maintain safe passage. 
  • Elevators will not be operational during the outage.
  • When leaving work before the planned power outage, ensure you shut down your computer, turn off monitors and other electronic devices and unplug power cords from power outlets, including power bars.
  • Do not rely on surge protectors to protect sensitive electronics or battery backup (UPS) systems to power equipment for the duration of the outage.
  • Unplug all lab equipment and attached power bars.
  • If you have food that may spoil or sensitive materials in your fridges/freezers, please dispose of or find an alternate place to move them. https://www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-charts/food-safety-during-power-outage
  • In the event there is any equipment that does not return to operation after the shutdown, please issue a FAMIS request.

If you have concerns about equipment or sensitive materials that may be at risk during the outage that has not been discussed with Facilities Management, please contact the designated Project Manager as soon as possible.
