Award for Teaching Excellence
The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science commits to excellence in teaching and learning. The faculty's Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes and encourages:
- outstanding instruction
- curriculum development and innovation in the classroom and laboratories
Up to two awards are presented annually. Award winners' names are displayed on a permanent wall plaque near the dean's office and the winner receives a certificate. Winners are usually presented and citations read at fall convocation.
Nominations
Faculty, staff or students can nominate someone. Nominees:
- must have at least 3 years' teaching experience within UVic's Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science
- may be full-time or part-time
- include tenured, untenured, teaching assistant professors and sessional faculty
- include laboratory instructors involved in extensive teaching functions
The deadline for nominations is mid-May.
You can submit nominations at any time using the nomination form below. The selection committee meets in late May to consider all nominations.
Previous winners of this award or of the UVic Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching within the past six years are not eligible.
Selection committee
The teaching award selection committee consists of:
- the dean of engineering and computer science (committee chair)
- one faculty member from each department in the faculty appointed by the dean
- two student representatives:
- one selected by the Engineering Student Society
- one selected by the Computer Science Course Union
In the event the dean gets nominated for an award, the associate dean (undergraduate programs) will chair the committee.
