Brand checklist
Here are some tips and questions to ask yourself when planning and assessing your communications and marketing project to ensure it follows brand guidelines and leverages the Edge.
Planning
- Have you contacted a member of the University Communications and Marketing (UC+M) team to discuss your project?
- Have you defined your project's communication or marketing objectives?
- Who is your target audience? Describe what you know about them, where they are and what benefit your project will bring to them.
- What do you want your audience to do as a result of seeing/reading/hearing/engaging with your project?
- How does the project support your unit's overall objectives?
Design
- Have you determined if it's a project you can create yourself or if it needs to go through UC+M?
- If working with UC+M, have you contacted a member of the Strategic Marketing team to initiate your project?
- If working with UC+M, is there a professional flex template for your piece?
- If it's a piece you’re creating yourself, have you incorporated the correct colours, logo and typography?
Content
- Does your project use stories that support the Edge messages?
- Does your copy include references to or relate to dynamic learning, vital impact and our extraordinary academic environment?
- Are you using a clear, credible and conversational tone?
- Does your content reflect the UVic Edge character?
- Have you followed the Style Guide?
- Does your content reflect the diversity of UVic people and experiences?
- Have you attended an Understanding the Edge workshop?
Photography
- Before requesting a photo shoot, have you looked through the Image Gallery to see if the photos you need already exist?
- If you want to use photos from another source, do they support the Edge photo style?
- Do you have a signed release for any people identifiable in your photos?
Web
- Have you contacted the web coordinator to bring your site within the Edge template and ensure you’re following best practices for content?
- Have you looked through the University websites website?
- Have you attended the workshops for choosing engaging photos for your website and writing for the Edge?
Social media
- Are you sharing content that supports Edge key messages?
- Have you contacted the social media coordinator?
- Have you attended a workshop for using social media at UVic?
Video
- Have you discussed your project with the video coordinator?
- Have you attended the workshops for video production at UVic and do-it-yourself video production?
- Have you filled out a creative brief?
Stationery and electronic templates
- Are you using the correct email signature?
- Have you ordered Edge business cards?
- Are you using the PowerPoint template for presentations?
