Reduced course load

If you register with the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL), you can be a full-time student with fewer course units in a term. If you are an undergraduate student, your reduced full-time requirement is 3 units instead of 4.5. If you are a graduate student, you should discuss this accommodation with your graduate supervisor and CAL Accessibility Advisor.

You must submit a reduced course load letter to each office you want to consider you full-time. That might include:

• Student Awards and Financial Aid for scholarships,
• Residence Services for on-campus housing,
• Work study program for financial assistance through part-time employment, and
• Faculty of Graduate Studies for graduate awards, fellowships, and bursaries.

You might have to submit another letter every term. Be sure to ask the office and set reminders.

Your Accessibility Advisor can send you your reduced course load letter. Email your advisor directly or book an appointment through with the CAL front desk. You can email the front desk, phone them at 250-472-4947, or come to the CAL main office in person.

External agencies

Agencies outside of UVic have their own course load requirements for students with a disability or chronic health condition. This includes:

• Canada Revenue Agency,
• Canada Student Grants and Loans
• Medical insurance not through UVSS or GSS

UVic does not have authority over the requirements of external agencies.
