Why virtualize servers?

Server virtualization provides a robust, economical and environmentally friendly option for meeting computing needs.  This technology achieves efficiencies of energy and space by concurrently running a number of logical servers on one piece of computer hardware (physical server).

Virtualization also allows for rapid recovery from computer hardware malfunction: a virtual server can be moved from a failing hardware server to another, healthy server usually without any interruption in service.

The use of  virtual servers also eliminates the need for funding to initially purchase computer hardware and replace it every 3-5 years.

Some software applications are not amenable to virtualization; however, the vast majority of modern software is fully compatible with this technology.
