A number of higher education institutions have recently been targeted by malicious Microsoft Word macros. A Microsoft Word macro is a series of commands and instructions that you group together as a single command to accomplish a frequently used task in Word. These commands and instructions are capable of malicious activity and may run automatically and invisibly when a Microsoft Word document containing macros is opened.
As a preventative measure, on January 19, 2017, all Windows workstations supported by Desktop Support Services will be configured to block the use of unsigned Microsoft Word macros. Unsigned Microsoft Word macros are lacking a digital signature from a trusted publisher and pose the greatest security risk.
Microsoft Word 2010, 2013 or 2016: Unsigned macros contained in Microsoft Word documents will be blocked from running when a Word document is opened. Signed macros will continue to run.

Effective 12 hours ago: Wireless SSID "UVic" has been restored and clients are using the new DHCP servers.
Network Services will be disabling the Wireless SSID "UVic" Thursday morning at 7:00am for approximately 10 minutes to facilitate the move to new DHCP servers.
Any issues arising after this time should be communicated to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Effective 1 day ago: *UPDATE* This issue has been resolved, email notifications associated with the News Forum and other CourseSpaces forums are now sending successfully.
We have received reports that email notifications associated with the News Forum and other CourseSpaces forums are not sending. University Systems and Technology Integrated Learning are aware of the issue and working to find a resolution. We will post an update once this has issue has been resolved.

Effective 7 hours ago: Skype Service are back to normal. ESX guest migration landed the server on the EXS host whose ports were not configured with Skype vlans. We are making sure that this ESX host ports are mapped correctly.
One of the skype servers is experiencing difficulties with the network at this moment. We are investigating.
Skype services should be unaffected for most users. Users that had to be moved to an alternate server may have experienced temporary connectivity issues with video conferencing.
