Update: Network Edge Connectivity Issues

Posted on April 16, 2014 at 09:51:12 am by ysavard@uvic.ca
Effective date: April 16, 2014 at 09:46:00 am(17 hours ago)

Effective 17 hours ago: Network Services is currently looking into a routing problem that is causing short term packet loss and intermittent timeouts leaving campus on the research and commodity internet connections.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

This network issue has now stabilized.

Network Services has isolated this problem to a network device inline with our primary network path for network traffic destined to off campus locations. When this device is experiencing issues our routing protocols move traffic to the secondary network path. Traffic was flapping between the primary and secondary network paths this morning and causing network connectivity issues.

We are working closely with the device's manufacturer and are monitoring the situation closely. We have a workaround which we are able to implement if the problem re-occurs.

Thank-you for your patience.
