WestGrid outage at UVic

Posted on November 24, 2014 at 03:52:48 pm by dleske@uvic.ca
Effective date: November 28, 2014 at 08:00:00 am(2 hours ago)

Effective 2 hours ago: On 28 November between 0800 and 1400 PST all WestGrid resources at the University of Victoria will be offline for necessary maintenance to the core switch. This maintenance is necessary for continued and immediately expected growth in use of cloud resources; other maintenance will be performed at this time.

During this period the GPFS filesystem, compute nodes, batch queues, and interactive nodes will be unavailable. Submitted jobs will be queued if their projected run time overlaps with the maintenance window.

Updates will be posted in this space.

Please note this downtime is in addition to the brief network outage of 27 November interrupting external connectivity.

Issue with updating new switch configs via tools

Posted on November 27, 2014 at 03:07:36 pm by frostm@uvic.ca
Effective date: November 27, 2014 at 03:00:00 pm(19 hours ago)

Effective 19 hours ago: We are receiving reports of problems updating switch ports on some of the new switches via the port admin tools.

This is currently being looked into, the symptom is shown on the portadmin configuration page in the Options column for Voice VLAN and Port Security. You will see messages in red saying "Voice VLan is not supported on this device" and "Security is not supported on this device".

If you see this message, please create a ticket with netadmin@uvic.ca and we will update the ports for you manually until we track down the issue. If you do save the configuration, this will remove the voice VLAN and any security settings from the switchport.
