Campus in the fall

The office of the vice-president finance and operations oversees the financial, human and physical resources of the university.

Campus security

Campus Security promotes a safe and welcoming environment at UVic by providing security services, parking and transportation services and motor pool services. Campus Security also monitors and responds to all campus fire, intrusion and mechanical alarms.

Facilities management

Facilities Management is a diverse and dynamic group of professionals dedicated to the provision of support services necessary to promote excellence in teaching, research and community service activities at UVic. The department has over 300 employees including skilled technicians, trades persons, custodians, groundskeepers, mechanics, electricians and carpenters, operating engineers, maintenance professionals, clerical assistants, engineers, architects, technologists, managers and administrators.

Financial planning and operations

The associate vice-president financial planning and operations is responsible for the overall planning and coordination of the university's budget and budget planning process, covering operating and non-operating revenue and expenditures.  The AVP is also responsible for the operations of pensions and investment services, risk management and insurance, capital space and planning, and campus planning and sustainability.

Financial services

The Financial Services department is responsible for managing the university's financial and accounting affairs. This includes the management of banking and cashier functions, tuition fee assessments, ledgers, financial systems, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, research accounting, endowment accounting, pension functions and all internal and external financial reporting.

General Counsel

The office of the General Counsel is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the university.

The General Counsel is also the delegated head under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Privacy and Access Office provides privacy and access services to the university community.

Human resources

Human Resources provides services to prospective and current employees with issues regarding career opportunities, policies, benefits and professional development.

Internal audit

Internal audit is an independent appraisal activity within the university for the review of operations as a service to the institution and to its management. Internal auditing is a managerial control which functions by measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of other controls.

University systems

University Systems provides a wide variety of primary services to the university:  client service, support services, web services, research systems, learning and teaching systems, infrastructure and organization.
