Microsoft Power Platform

Microsoft Power Platform is a set of tools used for business automation, analysis and low-code development. UVic’s Microsoft 365 license covers:

  • Power Automate
  • Power Apps
  • Power BI

Power Pages and Copilot Studio are included in Power Platform, but haven't been approved for use at UVic.

Power Automate

Power Automate helps you create automated workflows between Microsoft 365 apps and services to synchronize files, get notifications and collect data. Its uses include:

  • automating business processes
  • sending automatic reminders for past due tasks
  • moving business data between systems on a schedule
  • connecting to every Microsoft 365 service
  • automating tasks on your local computer like computing data in Excel

Students and employees can use Power Automate for free.

Power Automate can connect to over 800 data sources. We've created a list of power automate connectors suitable for use at UVic. All uses of Power Automate are subject to UVic privacy and security policies.

Please submit a feature request if you’re interested in a Power Platform connector not currently permitted for use.

Power Apps

Power Apps is a low-code development environment used to create custom apps. You can build user interfaces (UIs) and connect data stored in SharePoint lists, Excel spreadsheets and other data sources.

Power Apps is not a replacement for professional software development, but non-developers can use it to build apps and automate business processes. If you want to create an app or automation for UVic business processes, consult with us first. Power apps may not be a suitable or sustainable solution.

Students and employees can use Power Apps for free.

Power BI

Power BI is a platform for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing business data. It can:

  • use data from many sources, like:
    • Microsoft 365 services (like SharePoint and Teams)
    • Excel spreadsheets
    • enterprise databases
  • create customized visual dashboards
  • use R and Python help analyze your data

Power Pages

Power Pages is a low-code website builder and hosting service. It’s designed for building interactive company websites aimed at an external audience.

Power Pages is not currently approved for use at UVic. See web hosting for alternatives or contact your IT support for a consultation.
