Beginning November 1, 2026, most of British Columbia will remain on Pacific daylight time (UTC-7) year-round and will no longer set clocks back in the fall.

Microsoft and Apple are preparing updates to support the change. During the transition, meetings scheduled for November 1 or later may appear at different times, depending on the device or application used to create or view them. The required correction depends on vendor updates and cannot be applied by University Systems.

For example, a meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. in Outlook on one device may appear as 11 a.m. on another. This issue may affect Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, Outlook on the web and mobile devices.

What you need to do

• Check the time when scheduling or reviewing meetings on or after November 1, especially important meetings and meetings with participants outside BC
• Avoid creating or changing non-essential recurring meetings that extend beyond November 1 until vendor updates are available
• Include the intended BC meeting time in the subject line for important meetings on or after November 1
• Use Outlook on the web to create or change meetings if you use macOS or iOS; it is expected to display these meetings correctly after November 1
• Do not manually change your device time zone to try to correct meeting times

If meeting times do not match

If a meeting appears at different times on different devices or in different applications, contact your IT support team for current guidance.

What happens next

Microsoft and Apple are releasing updates for BC’s new time-zone rules. University Systems is monitoring these changes and testing Outlook, Exchange Online, Windows, macOS and mobile devices to assess the effect on existing and future meetings.

University Systems will provide more information as vendor updates become available and before the change takes effect on November 1, 2026.
