Prospective faculty and sessionals

Prospective faculty

Join us at one of Canada’s leading research universities.

Our department is recognized for its strengths in both research and teaching. Areas of faculty research include both theoretical and applied economics, econometric theory and the history of economic thought.

All faculty members have active research programs and publish regularly in academic journals. They have made important applied contributions to industry and governments at various levels.

We have an active seminar program, hosting visiting speakers from universities and organizations in various countries, including Canada, the USA, Europe and Australia.

Sessional lecturers

We consider PhD students for teaching positions. Normally students will be required to have advanced to candidacy to be considered, although exceptions are sometimes made based on previous teaching experience.

Positions for sessional lecturers are posted by May for winter session and by January for Summer session.

Sessional lecturers are covered by a collective agreement between CUPE Local 4163 and UVic.

The department’s instructional needs change each term.  We expect to hire a minimum of one sessional lecturer for each of the course sections listed; however, these courses are subject to change based on enrollment and teaching needs.
